BEST PRACTICES FOR VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS: A summary
Get the lighting right.
Choose the right background.

If your home doesn’t have natural light, which is the best, consider buying additional lighting.
(1) Get the lighting right.
Choose a background that enhances your professional image and is aligned with your message.
Avoid a cluttered or distracting background.
(2) Choose the right background.
Make sure you know how your technology works.
Practice or have a dry run, and Have an assistant, if necessary.

Put the camera at eye level.
when you’re speaking, Look directly into your camera.
(4) Play to the camera.
Have the camera frame your face, neck, and shoulders (but neither too close nor too far).
Practice your positioning and distance.

Use a standing desk/position your laptop, so you can stand at eye level with it.
If you have to sit, lean forward like you’re presenting at a real meeting.

Too slow or too monotone in your voice makes it easy for the audience to tune out.
(7) Be animated.
try to slow down a bit if you’re a fast talker; speed up a bit if you’re a slow talker.
(8) Pace yourself.
Make sure your sound emits clearly.
Practice, as needed.
(9) Do a sound check.
To give you the most stable internet signal, plug your computer directly into the modem using an Ethernet cable.
Conduct a speed test.
(10) Plug into your system.
Make sure someone else has a copy of your presentation in case the internet conks out.
Use quality graphics, and limit the amount of text per slide (keep to a minimum: 6-8 lines/slide, 30 words or less/slide).

Incorporate polls, raise hand features, etc.
Try not to speak for more than 10 minutes without audience engagement.
(12) Engage your participants.
Chats can be distracting; hence, assign someone to monitor them.
If you have asked the audience to chat their questions/comments/answers, pause and engage directly with the chats.
(13) Let someone else check the chats.
If possible record the session, and look for what worked and areas to improve.
(14) Evaluate and enhance.
Let your personality show.
Enjoy your presentation.
