Lesson 5.1: Central Sterilization Room (CSR) Flashcards
Unprocessed biological monitor from the same lot as test monitor and verifies viability of unexposed microorganisms
Biological Control
Bacterial endospore test that assesses if sterilization has occurred. “Biological Indicator” or “Biological Spore” test
Biological Monitor
A diagnostic test of pre-vacuum; checks sterilizer’s ability to remove air from the chamber and detects air leaks. Not a sterility assurance test
Bowie-Dick Test
Destruction/Inhibition of most viruses and bacteria; doesn’t kill spores and cannot be verified by a monitor
Chemical Disinfection
Continuous elapsed time while sterilizer is operating at preselected sterilizing parameters (temperature and pressure)
Exposure Time
A process using steam heat under pressure length of time to kill all microorganisms
Saturated Steam Sterilization
Remains visibly wet following a complete sterilization/drying cycle
Wet Pack/Wet Load
