Lesson 6 Flashcards

Q

How does Robertson solve the “problem” of the Davidic succession ending after 400 years?

A
  1. The Davidic line is a typological shadow of the reign of Christ.
  2. It is an anticipation of Christ’s reign, and, like all shadows, it must be lesser than that which it foreshadows.
  3. While the Davidic succession of earthly rulers ended, Christ’s reign will never end.
  4. There exists a continual pattern of chastening for sin, yet fulfillment of covenant and its promises.

Q

Was the Davidic Covenant conditional or unconditional? Explain.

A

On a broad level, the covenant is unconditional in the sense that God will fulfill His purposes no matter the circumstances.

However, on an individual level, it is conditional in the sense that punishment and judgement will come to those who fail to uphold the conditions.
