What does direct speech do?
Repeats exactly what someone said or quotes the same words spoken.
What does reported speech (indirect speech) do?
Narrates or retells what the speaker said in the past, with changes in the actual words.
What do both direct and reported speech provide?
Information or repetition of another person’s statement.
What verbs are commonly used in both direct and reported speech?
Reporting verbs such as said, told, asked, etc.
What is the first difference between direct and reported speech?
Direct speech uses quotation marks; reported speech does not.
