What is Ontology?
- A branch of metaphysics that concerns itself with the nature/essence of humanity.
- Study of being and existing
- “What is most real?” “Why do people do things?”
The theory of knowledge, knowledge of theories, experiences and self; how knowledge is acquired and used.

Epistemology
Epistemology has three (3) types of knowledge, enumerate them:
1.) Propositional Knowledge
2.) Professional Craft Knowledge
3.) Personal Knowledge
Propositional Knowledge is learned through?
Reading and research and in school (i.e. Books)
How does one acquire Professional Craft Knowledge?
It is based on experience and practice
Personal Knowledge is?
Knowledge of self, of one’s preferences, boundaries and biases
The study of values, of being good—morality, judgements, collaborative practice (i.e. working with other health professionals) and client-environment

What is a Theory?
A systematic explanation for something based on facts/experiences/observations

Two (2) Types of Models:
1.) Conceptual Models
2.) Practice Models
Explain what a Conceptual Model is
Occupation-focused theoretical constructs and propositions that have been developed specifically to explain the process and practice of OT.
What is a Practice Model?
Models that can be used during the OT practice/service/intervention.
What is the difference between a Theory and a Model?
Theory acts as an explanation for a system.
Model is a symbolic representation of concepts and acts as a guide for our professionalism.
The Seven (7) Core Values of OT + meaning:
1.) Altruism - Concern for the wellbeing of the client
2.) Equality - fairness; not imposing your own values
3.) Prudence - being practical
4.) Justice - following rules
5.) Freedom - client is able to choose without restraint
6.) Dignity - uniquness of each client is valued and respected
7.) Truth - quality of being honest and accurate with information
A systematic way to uphold core principles of the profession; theoretical/conceptual ideas.
Something all artists use in order for their drawings to be close to real life as possible.
Frame of Reference
Used in interventions to understand the future result the client may notice after intervention; it provides foundation for the entire FOR.
