Levels of Organization Flashcards
What are the levels of organization in order?
Atoms > Molecules > Cells > Tissues > Organs > Organ Systems > Organisms
What are atoms?
They are small particles made up of subatomic particles with a positive, negative, and neutral charge.
What are molecules?
Made up of the same type of atom.
What are cells made of?
Cells are made up of molecules.
What is tissue made of?
A group of cells perform in the same function make up tissue.
What are organs made of?
Different kinds of tissue that function together.
What is an organ system?
A group of organs that work together and perform one major function.
What is the purpose of the integumentary system?
Composed of the skin, hair, nails, and sweat glands. It acts as the body’s first defense against pathogens.
What is the purpose of the muscular system?
The muscular system is responsible for movement. The cells make it so that the muscles can contract resulting in movement.
What is the purpose of the nervous system?
The nervous system is the major controls, regulatory and communicating system. It is responsible for maintaining homeostasis by monitoring the environment like temperature, light, sound, pH, etc. then responds based on the input.
What is the purpose of the skeletal system?
The skeletal system supports and protects the body’s soft body parts like the brain or heart. It also helps our body move because the muscle uses a simple lever system to create movement.
What is the circulatory system?
The circulatory system is tasked with pumping blood though our body to every issue and cell.
