Arbitrariness

A

Name of lexeme does not result from the nature of reality it stands for e.g. basic features of table (material,colour) are not reflected in the nature of the word

Conventionality

A

word is sort of a convention among the members of the particular langiage community

Universality

A

tendency of a word to denote whole class of objects not just individual object (word table - all kind of tables not just one particular with 4 legs and white wood) ;*

A

Nature of word cannot be always connected with arbitrariness.

A

Determined by structure of some other related words (word worker - linked to work)

A

has been inspired by the original meaning of an already existing lexeme (word mouse denoting an animal was used to name electronic device because it resembles it)
