19
Q

How does the Pro-Laser 4 calculate speed?

A

• 200 pulses of light emitted every second,
• Timer starts as pulse leaves,
• Stops when energy is reflected back,
• Based on known speed of light the Prolaser calculates range,
• After approximately 70 readings the Prolaser will display a speed.
• Takes approximately one third of a second.

27
Q

What should you do if Pro-Laser 4 displays “HELP” in the HUD.

A

• Turn unit off and on again.
• If message persists note message and
• Return to REU

28
Q

How do you conduct a HUD check on a Pro-Laser 4?

A

1) Place Pro-laser in RANGE mode.
2) Verify tone is audible
3) Pull trigger using pole or sign with clear background.
4) Move unit left and right
5) As HUD reticle is moved onto target a clear tone should be heard,
6) When reticle is not on target - no sound and no range displayed.
7) Rotate unit 90 degrees and repeat.

29
Q

How do you conduct a Distance Accuracy Check on Pro-Laser 4?

A

• Place Pro-laser in RANGE mode
• At premeasured distances
• 25 and 50 metres
• Fire laser and record readings in Field Book
• Note readings should be + or - 20 cms of marking points.

30
Q

When can the Sweep Effect take place?

A

• Sweep effect may occur when operators target sides and bonnets of target vehicles
• Sweep effect may occur at distances in excess of 150 metres
• Sweep effect can add to or subtract from the speed of a target vehicle
• Can be eliminated by having a complete tracking history

31
Q

What does “LASER” mean?

A

Light Amplified by Simulated Emission of Radiation.

Q

What is the minimum detection time for a valid speed check?

A

3 seconds.

33
Q

What may affect the Pro-Laser 4’s ability to detect speed a night time.

A
