Q

What is Gastric juice composed of ?

A

Its composed of the following :

  1. Pepsin - breaks down proteins
  2. H Cl - Makes medium acidic for pepsin to act on the food

16
Q

What is the function of the bile juice ?

A
  1. Makes the food alkaline

2. Helps in the emulsification of fats

17
Q

What pancreatic juice contains ?

A

It contains the following enzymes :
1. Trypsin - helps in the digestion of
proteins
2.Lipase - Helps in the breakdown of emulsified fat

18
Q

What do intestinal juices do ?

A

they convert :

  1. Carbohydrates - Glucose
  2. Fats - fatty acid + glycerol
  3. Proteins - amino acids
19
Q

What are villi ?

A

Villi are finger-like projections in the small intestine that increase the surface are for absorption.
They are richly supplied with blood vessels which take the absorbed food to each and every cell of the body.

20
Q

what is the other name of the large intestine ?

A

Other name of large intestine is Colon .

21
Q

What is Respiration ?

A

The process by which Absorbed food is broken down / Oxidised to produce energy in cell is known as Respiration.

22
Q

What happens in respiration ?

A

Glucose + Oxygen —> Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy

23
Q

What is respiratory substrate ?

A

It is a substance which is broken down or oxidised to produce energy . Glucose ,Carbohydrates and proteins are respiratory substrates.

24
Q

Name different types Respiration ,

A

There are 2 different types of Respiration:

  1. Aerobic Respiration
  2. Anaerobic Respiration
25
What happens in Aerobic Respiration ?
This type of respiration occurs when Oxygen is present : Glucose ---> Pyruvate ----> Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy
26
What is peptic ulcer ?
It is an ulcer on the inner lining of the stomach caused by a bacterium ' helicobacter Pylori'
