What is Lipedema?
A disease of subcutaneous fat in women
There is a disproportionate increase of Lipedema tissue on the buttocks, hips, thighs and often the lower legs, and arms
Hereditary fatty enlargement of the legs with minimal involvement of the feet
Exclusively seen in women by the 3 decade
Leg sensitivity, pain, tenderness, and easy bruising may occur
Persistent enlargement of the legs after leg elevation
How is Lipedema treated?
Manual lymphatic drainage
Compression
Exercise
Thorough skin and nail care
Liposuction
How much of the population has Lipedema?
Lipedema affects 10% of the female population
It is highly under diagnosed
Almost exclusive occurrence in women
Will diet and exercise help with the progression of Lipedema?
Dieting and exercising will not reduce the fat involved in Lipedema, but it;s still important to do those things because they can help you lose the weight from nonlipedema fat and reduce inflammation
