Q

What are the structure and properties of glycerol?

A

Structure
3-carbon alcohol, each carbon bears a polar, hydrophilic -OH group.

Properties
Soluble in water as the polar, hydrophilic -OH groups allow glycerol to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules.
Glycerol is also described to be viscous and has a higher density than water.
