What is a simile?
A strong comparison using a connecting word such as like or as.
What is a metaphor?
Identification of one thing as, or in terms of, a very different thing without the use of like or as.
What is alliteration?
Repetition of initial sounds of stressed syllables near enough to each other to make it noticeable.
What is personification?
Attribution of human qualities to non-human objects or to abstractions.
What is imagery?
Vivid descriptive language that appeals to any of the senses.
What is end rhyme?
Repetition of terminal sounds of words at the ends of two or more lines.
What is symbolism?
An object, condition or action that represents something else within a certain context.
What is onomatopoeia?
Words that sound like the items or actions they name or refer to.
What is a paradox?
A statement or concept that contains conflicting ideas.
What is irony?
Irony is a literary device that is all about opposite results and opposite expectations.
What is a Hyperbole?
A type of figurative language defined as a dramatic exaggeration
What is Verbal irony?
When characters say one thing but mean another
What is dramatic irony?
When the audience knows something the character dont
What is Situational irony
When characters are in a situation opposite to the expected
What is motif
Recurring element, theme, or idea in a literary work with symbolic significance

Feeling the reader gets when they read the story
What is Theme
The message, moral, or lesson of the story
