Anaphora
When a word or group of words are repeated at the beginning of two successive causes or sentences.
Chiasmus
When two or more clauses or sentences are balanced against each other too create an artistic effect.
Euphamism
A euphemism is a polite or mild word or expression to address something , embarrassing taboo or unpleasant.
Epiphora
A word or clause that is repeated at the end of successive clauses or sentences.
Hypophora
Hypophora is a figure os speech in which the speaker poses a rhetorical question but immediately answers it. Hyphophora is often a good way of reasoning aloud.
Horatian Satire
Satire that has a predominantly light hearted tone.
Juvenalian Satire
Satire that has an underlying bitter and angry tone.
Pun
The humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasise its different meanings or applications.
Bombast
Speech or writing that is pompous ,inflated and or condescending
Socratic irony
Faking ignorance in order to gain an advantage over an opponent . Pretending you are stupid to expose the stupidity of others.
Double Entendre
An an expression with two meanings one of which is usually risqué
Freuden slip
The manifestation of a subconscious interest , concern or fear.
Epigram
A concise cleverly worded remark making a pointed witty statement.
Caricature
A representation in which the characters features are exaggerated to create a particular effect.
Taboo
Saying or doing something that would not be done in a civilised environment.
Narrative Gaps
Long standing questions that remain unanswered and are suspended in the readers curiosity until a latter point in the novel they often leaded the reader down the wrong narrative gap as they manipulate what they already know to try and fill the gap however are normally wrong.
Dramatic irony
When the audience or reader is more aware than the characters.
Ironic Observation
When a 3rd person omniscient narrator points out one thing but discreetly implies something else while pointing out the first thing.
Irony of Situation
The irony of situation is induced by the situation rather than by that which is said, the irony is created as the situation means one thing in the literal sense however when viewed in light of context has a different meaning.
Chronology
The sequence of events as they happen
Attribution
the acknowledgement of which character makes a remark comment or statement “said Janey”
In medias res
The practice of beginning a narrative by plunging into a crucial situation
Exposition
The beginning of a novel when the characters are introduced and a story begins to be set up.
Inciting Incident
The incident of which triggers the comic confusion , chaos and complication
