A state of feeling of excitement or anxious uncertainly about what may happen.
Suspense
An indirect reference to a famous person,place,event,or literary work.
Allusion
A writers use of hints that will occur later on in the story.
Foreshadowing
An account of conversation an episode or an event that happened before the beginning of the story.
Flashback
Comparison of two things using “like” or “as”
Simile
A figure of speech/ comparison not using “like” or “as”
Metaphor
A state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.
Irony
An over exaggeration
Hyperbole
Giving human like qualities to non human things.
Personification
Visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work.
Imagery
The time and place of the action of a story.
Setting
A character who provides a striking contrast to another character. Writer can call attention to certain traits possessed by a main character by contrast.
Foil
Tension between two or more characters.
Conflict
The subject of talk, a piece of writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic.
Theme
A person, place, object, or an activity that stands for something beyond itself.
Symbol
Hero, leader of the story( main character)
Protagonist
A character who remains the same throughout the story.
Static
The person who apposes the main character(evil, enemy, rival)
Antagonist
A general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc.
Tone
A person or character who goes through a change in personality.
Dynamic
The literature in the form of prose, short stories and novels, that describe imaginary events and people.
Fiction
Writing that is based on facts, real people, events, such as a biography or history.
Non Fiction
A temporary state of mind or feeling.
Mood
The narration of a story that is told in first or third point of view.
Point of view
