Define PERIPHRASIS
Use of excessive language and surplus words to convey a meaning that could otherwise be conveyed with fewer words, in a more direct manner.
Define PERSONIFICATION
Attaching human traits and characteristics with inanimate objects, phenomena and animals.
Define PLOT
The sequence of events and happenings to make up a story, usually a pattern, unintended or intentional to threat it together.
Define POINT OF VIEW
The manner in which a story is narrated or depicted and who it is that tells the story.
Define POLYSYNDERTON
The process of using conjunctions/ connecting words frequently in a sentence, placed very close to one another.
Define PORTMANTEAU
Joining two or more words in order to create an entirely new word.
Define PROLOGUE
An introduction to a story that usually sets the tone and acts as a bit of a backgrounder into the story.
Define PUNS
A word is used in a manner to suggest two or more possible meanings - create humour or irony.
Define RHYME SCHEME
Rhyming words placed at the end of the lines in the prose or poetry - the order in which the words rhyme.
Define RHYTHM & RHYME
A pattern of rhymes that is created by using words that produce the same, or similar sounds - reoccurrence of similar sounds - create musical effect.
Define SATIRE
Making fun of a human weakness/ character flaw.
Define SETTING
Identify and establish the time, place and mood of the events of the story.
