Plot
The chain of events in a story.
What are the 5 main sections of a story? Think about your Story Mountain. (List them in order of occurrence)
Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution.
Conflict
A struggle between two or more forces in a story.
What are the 4 types of conflict?
Man vs. Man
Man vs. Nature
Man vs. Society
Man vs. Self
Setting
The time, place, and circumstances of the story.
Characterization
The way the author develops the characters personalities.
What are the different types of characters?
Flat, Round, Static, Dynamic, Protagonist, and Antagonist.
What is a Flat character?
A character that is not very well developed. We do not know much about this character.
What is a Round character?
A very well developed character, this character feels very real.
What is a Static character?
Does not undergo much change throughout the story.
What is a Dynamic character?
Experiences a lot of change during the story.
Who is the Protagonist?
The main character, usually the hero.
Who is the Antagonist?
The person who fights against the main character, usually the villain.
Point of View
The narrative perspective used to tell the story.
What are the three points of view used in literature?
1st, 2nd and 3rd person.
What is 1st person point of view?
Uses pronouns like “I”. The narrator is the character in the story, usually the protagonist. You know only what they can see and hear.
What is 2nd person point of view?
Treats reader like a character in the story. Uses pronouns like “you”
What is 3rd person point of view?
Outside narrator. Uses pronouns like “he” and “she”

The message the author is trying to get across.
