newspapers published pictures of Alan Kurdi (3)’s dead body after he drowned whilst migrating. regulators struggled because it was a distressing image but also very poignant and important for people to understand the tragedy of the migrant crisis in 2015

some newspapers used the picture of Alan Kurdi on the beach, and others used him being carried off the beach with his face hidden. some believed to show his face was harmful

phone hacking scandal. exposed lots of information eg. watergate, but also disrupted investigations such as millie dowler. easier to bypass editors code of privacy, but hard to regulate if it exposes truths which the public need to know.
