Q

Fuze PD783 operation

A
  • On firing setback sensor in S&A recognises launch acceleration releasing the 1st rotor lock (zigzag)
  • As the mortar travels through its flight
 air is forced into the venturi in the ogive of the fuze turning the turbine and generating power
 At the same time the turbine drives the gear train in the S&A to remove 2 nd rotor lock (jackscrew)
 The gear train provides 100m min arming distance.
 Once the rotor is unlocked it rotates 180 and latches.
Aligning the primary & secondary explosive elements
    Connects the elec Det
Disengages the gear train from the alternator shaft
     Once S&A fully armed
There is an elec delay to the elec arming until post round apogee (top of the trajectory in flight) by monitoring the turbine frequency.

Q

Fuze PD M935 Operation

A
  • Set by rotating the slotted shaft and removing the pull wire.
  • On firing setback pin moves rearward releasing a ball detent, releasing firing pin
  • Firing pin moves forward partially releasing detonator slider
  • Second setback pin moves releasing a 2nd ball releasing striker.
  • Striker moves rearward functioning delay element
  • Delay element maintains the explosive train out of line.
  • 2-6 second delay removes the arming pin from slider, arming alignment
  • Impact functions detonator, initiating lead and booster

13
Q

Fuze MTSQ M776 operation

A
  • Time is set by rotating the head of the fuze in a counter clockwise direction to the required time setting
 If the setting is passed keep turning all the way around
  • Pin removed before firing
  • On firing the rnd is accelerated to 500g
  • Setback sleeve withdraws
 Allowing the setback pins to retract
     Unlocking the escapement
  • Setback pins lower collars disengage
  • Releasing the spring loaded Det housing to move under spring tension after the locking shaft has turned out of the slot in the Det housing
  • The escapement barrel continues to turn until it aligns with the tongue of the firing lever
  • Once this happens the striker spring forces the striker downwards
  • This then forces the firing lever and the lever release apart
  • The firing lever strikes the firing pin into the Det initiating the explosive train at the set time
  • The expulsion chge ignites and ejects the candle assy
  • The spring in the base of the body ejects the parachute from the tail cone
  • Parachute deploys to slow the rate of decent to provide battle field illumination
