Q

Frontal Lobe Functions

A

Expressive language (Broca’s area), inferior-posterior of left frontal lobe. Personality and some memory (Prefrontal Cortex), very front of frontal lobes. Primary motor cortex (motor strip): posterior gyrus of frontal lobe just anterior to the central sulcus. Left primary motor cortex issues motor plans for speech. More surface area is dedicated to parts with fine movement than gross motor movement.

Q

Parietal Lobe Functions:

A

Primarily sensory in nature, primary sensory cortex (Sensory strip), receives tactile/somatic info, left sensory cortex receives sensory info from right side of the body. Right sensory cortex receives sensory info from left side of body. More surface area is dedicated to body parts that have more sensory receptors than others with fewer sensory receptors.

Q

Temporal Lobe Functions

A

Most memory created and housed here.

Hippocampus moves experiences from short term memory into long term memory.

Primary Auditory Cortex located in superior temporal gyrus, in front of Wernicke’s area.

Left and right primary auditory cortexes.

Q

Occipital Lobes Functions

A

Vision. Primary visual cortex receives info from the eyes, each visual cortex receives and processes info from the contralateral visual field; transmits visual info anteriorly to visual association (parieto-occipital) areas for processing.Visual association areas process and interpret visual info from visual cortex, allows for perception, lesions may cause visual agnosia.
