Local rating Flashcards
(26 cards)
local single result tasks
have a query, one local result, and a result map
local SxS rating tasks
have a query, two sets of local results, and a result map
user location
approximate location of user when the query was issued
viewport
small area on a map that usually specifies the user’s area of interest
viewport set by default
when a user first navigates to Google Maps, he/she usually sees a map of his/her country
viewport set directly by user
when a user moves the map from its default location before issuing the query, the viewport is a map of the location the user navigated to
viewport set by a previous search
when a user issues a search on Google Maps prior to issuing the query in the task, the viewport is the map that showed results from the previous query
task location
the language and country of the task e.g. English (US), Spanish (MX)
zoom level
does not represent the zoom level shown to the user; should not influence rating
local rating queries have
a what and a where
area of interest
the geographical area in which the user is searching for something
explicit location
the area of interest is specified in the query
implicit location
inferred from the user location when: 1. the query can be reasonably answered by results near the user location, 2. there are multiple ways to interpret the query
the viewport can provide context to the query in cases where
- the explicit location is broad
- there is no explicit location
- there are multiple ways to interpret the query
If the query contains an explicit location
that location overrides the user location and/or the viewport
If the query contains an explicit location and the viewport is within the explicit location
then the viewport can help refine the query
If the query has no explicit location but there is a reasonable viewport
the viewport overrides the user location
If the query has no explicit location and no viewport
assume that the user location is the area of interest
global area of interest
do not need an explicit location, viewport or user location e.g. Statue of Liberty
navigational
the query is for something specific, which has one, single perfect result
Chain
The query is for a business/organization that has multiple locations or branches
categorical
The query is for something within a category of products, services or places
Ambiguous
The query is vague, has multiple interpretations, or does not obviously fall in another query type
Business chain
e.g. Starbucks, McDonalds
