Semantically.
Baddelely showed that when participants recalled word lists from LTM they did not get words with similar sounds mixed up, e.g. mat, cat, hat. However recall was much poorer for words with similar meanings, e.g. large, big, huge.
capacity
A university lecturer looked at his memory for 560 past students over more than 2 decades. He could accurately recognise whether an individual was a past student on over 80% of occasions.
duration
Tested by researcher who looked at the recall of Spanish as a second language in participants who had stopped Spanish up to 50 years before. He found that there was a rapid decline in recall in the first 3 years but after that a significant amount was available and subsequent decline was minimal.
