ralph and piggy meet
we learn their plane was shot down and they are in the midst of war
the conch first appears and ralph blows it to call everyone together
a leader is elected and jack is the hunter
simon, jack, and ralph go into the forest to look around
the catch a pig but jack is unable to kill it
chapter 2 summary
the conch is given power - whoever has it is allowed to speak
the boys establish hunters and the chief - ralph
the beast is first brought up
the boy with the mark has disappeared and the boys deny it
chapter 3 summary
ralph and simon are some of the only boys helping with the plans
jack tried hunting but didn’t catch anything
simon first finds his hiding place
chapter 4 summary
the littluns still mention the beast
roger and maurice are violent towards the little ones and stomp on their sandcastles
jack’s mask first appears
one of piggy’s glasses is broken
chapter 5 summary
we start to learn and realize how long the boys have been on the island
ralph calls an assembly to get things back in order
a littun speaks up and says there is a beast, and jack believes it and goes to hunt
chapter 6 summary
military airplanes are battling
sam and eric fall asleep while they’re supposed to be watching the signal fire
the parachutist falls from the plane
the twins claim they saw the monster and the hunters and ralph go to find the beast
ralph starts to go on his own near the cave
chapter 7 summary
simon reassures ralph that they will make it home
ralph goes on his first hunt with the boys
ralph roger and jack climb the mountain
they claim they saw the monster
chapter 8 summary
jack lies and says ralph didn’t go on the mountain with him
jack isn’t elected as chief and storms off and invites others to come with him if they choose
ralph is upset that the others left him and piggy tries to cheer him up
jack starts his own party and declares himself chief
simon sees the pig head (Lord of the Flies) and it declares simon won’t ever be able to escape him
simon has a seizure
chapter 9 summary
simon sees the dead parachute man and wants to tell the others
jack acts like a king and treats the others as servants
the boys kill simon with their bare hands
chapter 10 summary
piggy denies killing simon
jack is in complete power at castle rock - he punishes others for no reason
the boys steal piggy’s glasses for fire
chapter 11 summary
the boys not in jack's party decide to go confront jack ralph and jack fight sam and eric are tied up the conch is shattered piggy is killed
chapter 12 summary
ralph is hiding from the tribe and uses the old pig’s stake as a weapon
ralph talks to sam and eric to find out about jack’s plans
ralph hides and the boys can’t get him out so jack sets the island on fire
a navy officer finds the boys
the boys start sobbing
