Lower Limbs Flashcards
(51 cards)
Origin of Gluteus Maximus
Origin:
- posterior surface of ilium and sacrum
- lateral aspect of coccyx
- sacrotuberous ligament
- aponeurosis of erector spinae
- gluteus mediums fascia
Insertion of Gluteus Maximus
Insertion:
- Superficial fibres: iliotibial tract of fascia lata
- Deep fibres: gluteal tuberosity of the femur
Nerve supply of Gluteus Maximus
Nerve:
Inferior Gluteal nerve L5,S1,S2
Actions of Gluteus Maximus
Action:
- extension of the femur at the hip joint
- assists lateral rotation fo the femur
- lower fibres may assist high addiction and the upper fibres may help with high abduction
- important role in maintaining upright posture and supporting the body weight whilst sitting
Origin of Gluteus Medius
Origin:
-external surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion of Gluteus Medius
Insertion:
-supero-lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Nerve supply of Gluteus Medius
Nerve:
-superior gluteal nerve L4,L5,S1
Origin of Gluteus minimums
Origin:
-external surface of ilium between inferior and anterior gluteal lines
Insertion of Gluteus minimums
Insertion:
-antero-superior aspect of the greater trochanter of femur
Nerve supply of Gluteus minimus
Nerve:
-superior gluteal nerve: L4,L5,S1
Action of gluteus minimus/Medius
ACTION:
-Abducts femur at hip joint, prevents pelvic drop on opposite swing side during walking and Medially rotates high at hip
Origin of tensor fascia lata
Origin:
-Lateral iliac crest between ASIS and tubercle of crest
Insertion of Tensor fascia Lata
Insertion:
-iliotibial tract of fascia lata which attaches to the lateral condyle of the tibia
Nerve supply of tensor fascia lata
Nerve:
Superior gluteal nerve L4,L5
Action of tensor fascia lata
Action:
- Extension of the knee joint
- Assists gluteus minimus in medial rotation of thigh
- flexes and abducts the hip
- works with Gluteus Medius to steady and control pelvis and femur when weight bearing
Origin of Sartorius
Origin:
-ASIS
Insertion of Sartorius
Insertion:
-proximal medial tibia (pes anserinus) (inferomedial to tibial tuberosity)
Nerve supply of Sartorius
Nerve:
-Femoral nerve L2, L3
Action of Sartorius
Action:
-flexion, abduction and lateral rotation of thigh, and flexes knee. Medial rotation of tibia on femur (movement for sitting crossed legged
Origin of Quadriceps
- Rectus Femoris (1)
- Vastus Lateralis (2)
- Vastus Medialis (3)
- Vastus Intermedius (4)
Origin:
1: AIIS and ilium just above acetabulum
2: femur: lateral intertrochanteric line, greater trochanter, lateral gluteal tuberosity, lateral Linea aspera
3: Femur: Medial intertrochanteric line, pectineal line, Medial Linea aspera, medial supracondylar line
4: Femur: upper 2/3rd of anterior and lateral femur
Insertion of Quadriceps
Insertion:
-Quadriceps femoris tendon, border of patella, through patella ligament to tibial tuberosity
Nerve supply of Quadriceps
Nerve:
-femoral nerve L2,L3,L4
Action of Quadriceps
Action:
- ALL: extends the knee.
- Rectus Femoris: flexes the thigh
Origin of Iliopsoas
Psoas Major
Iliacus
Origin:
Psoas Major: posterior abdominal wall (lumbar transverse processes, intervertebral discs and adjacent bodies of T12-L5 and tending us arches between these points.
Iliacus: posterior abdominal wall and iliac fossa
