LP # 217 ENGINE EVO COMPANY OPS Flashcards
(18 cards)
WHAT IS THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ENGINE?
The primary responsibility of an engine
company is to apply an extinguishing agent to
an existing fire.
WHAT DETERMINES THE TYPE OF HOSE LAY?
There are many factors which
will determine the type of hose evolution to be
applied to a given situation. Whether or not
fire is visible during response, the volume of
fire, the location of the fire, exposure
problems, and potential life hazards are but a
few of the factors which will determine the
size and number of lines to be used.
Who staffs a single engine
company?
Single Engine Company:
- One apparatus, staffed by:
a) Captain I
b) Engineer
c) Two Firefighters - HYDRANT - NOZZLE
In a two piece engine company the
lead apparatus is staffed by who?
Two Piece Engine Company (two apparatus)
- The lead engine is staffed by:
a) Captain
b) Engineer
c) Two Firefighters
The 200 Series Engine is staffed by:
a) One Engineer
HOW MANY MEMBERS IS STAFFED ON A SINGLE ENGINE COMPANY?
4 MEMBERS
HOW MANY MEMBERS IS STAFFED ON A TWO PIECE ENGINE COMPANY?
5 MEMBERS
Who normally staffs a Truck
company?
The Truck is staffed by:

c) Three Firefighters
WHAT MAKES UP A LIGHT FORCE? AND HOW MANY MEMBERS?
- The Truck is staffed by
200 Series Engine is staffed by:
a) One Engineer
TOTAL 6 MEMBERS.
Name the two phases of a hose
evolution?
Supply Phase:
1. That phase of a hose evolution which allows
an engine apparatus to secure a constant
source of supply from a hydrant (or other
available water supply
What occurs during the firefighting
phase of a hose evolution?
Firefighting Phase:
1. Removal of the selected line(s) from the
apparatus and the advancement of those
hose lines to the objective
WHAT ARE THE TWO ENGINE EVOLUTIONS?
FORWARD AND REVERSE ENGINE
EVOLUTIONS
WHAT IS THE DIFFERNCE BETWEEN FOWARD AND REVERSE LAY?
Forward Evolution (Hydrant to Fire):
1. The type of hose evolution which begins with
the laying of a line from a hydrant or other
source of supply. Supply phase should be
completed firs
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE A REVERSE LAY?
Reverse Evolution (Fire to Hydrant):
The type of hose evolution which begins at the
fire and proceeds to the hydrant or other
source of supply. Firefighting phase should be
completed first
WERE DOES THE CAPTAIN SIT?
A. Captain: Rides in the right front seat
1. Is responsible for all engine company
operations
WERE DOES THE ENGINEER SIT AND WHAT ARE HIS REPONSIBILITIES?
B. Engineer: The driver of the apparatus 1. Completes the supply phase in a forward evolution 2. Assists in removing hose and equipment from the apparatus 3. Breaks proper coupling and supplies firefighting phase with water 4. Replaces slack hose
WERE DOES THE NOZZLE MEMBER SIT ON THE APPARATTUS?
Nozzle Member: Rides in the right-rear jump seat of an apparatus 1. Acquires and attaches nozzle 2. Advances nozzle and slack hose to objective
WERE DOES THE HYDRANT MEMBER SIT AND WHAT IS HIS ASSIGNMENT?
Hydrant Member: Rides in the left-rear jump seat of apparatus 1. Lays the line with the Four Way Valve 2. Supplies engine with water at the proper time 3. Replaces hydrant tools 4. Assists officer and Nozzle Member in advancing lines
In a two piece engine operation who
normally supplies water from the
hydrant to the lead apparatus?
A. Engineer-200 Series:
- Drives second pumping apparatus in a two
piece engine company. - Supplies water from hydrant to lead
apparatus
(Note: When the 200 series engine is
positioned at the fire, the Engineer performs
the same operations as the engine
Engineer)
