Describe deep gluteal pain syndrome
Pain in buttock or hip due to a compression of the sciatic or pudendal nerve
Often caused by piriformis syndrome, overuse, trauma, structural abnormalities or postural issues
Describe cauda equina syndrome
Compression/damage to nerve ends in the lower spinal cord - medical emergency
Often caused by herniated disc, SOL, central canal stenosis, closing foramina in lower lumbar region
Mostly common in 30-50 year olds
Red flags- saddle anaesthesia, changes in B/B, numbness/weakness in legs, severe LBP (sudden onset), sexual dysfunction
Describe lateral canal stensosis
Narrowing of lateral/central spinal canals due to direct compression or nerve root irritation
