17
Q

What nerves does the lumbosacral trunk give rise to

A

Caudal gluteal
Cranial gluteal
Sciatic

18
Q

What nerve innervates the muscles that extend the stifle

A

Femoral nerve

19
Q

What nerve innervates the muscles that adduct the pelvic limb

A

Obturator nerve

20
Q

What is the largest nerve of the body

A

Sciatic

21
Q

What does the autonomic nervous system innervate

A

Smooth muscle
Cardiac muscle
Glands

22
Q

What are the collateral ganglia

A

Large ganglion away from the vertebral column associated with unpaired arteries of the aorta

Celiac, cranial and caudal mesenteric ganglia

23
Q

What is the celiomesenteric ganglia

A

Both the celiac and cranial mesenteric ganglia referred to one region

24
Q

What has parasympathetic innervation to neck, thorax and abdomen

A

Vagus nerve

25
Q

Describe the pathway of the vagus nerve

A

Vagus nerve splits into ventral and dorsal branches which unite from either side into dorsal and ventral vagal trunks along the esophagus. Both trunks continue into the abdomen where the preganglionic fibers pass through the celiomesenteric ganglion and travel with the corresponding vessels toward target organs where they synapse with postganglionic neurons on the wall of the organ

26
Q

Describe sympathetic innervation from the lumbosacral plexus

A

Preganglionic fibers leave the sympathetic trunk to synapse with postganglionic fibers at the collateral ganglia

Splanchnic nerves connect the sympathetic trunk with collateral ganglia

The postganglionic fibers leave collateral ganglia to innervate target organs

27
Q

What is the enteric nervous system

A

Within the walls of the GI tract which allow it to function normally if the autonomic system is damaged

28
Q

What is the pelvic plexus

A

A network of nerve fibers that supply viscera of the pelvic cavity
- hypogastric n
- pelvic n

29
Q

A

Obturator n

30
Q

A

Hypogastric n

31
Q

What nerve innervates the perineal area

A

Pudendal n

32

A

Common fibular nerve

33
Q

What innervates the tensor fascia latae

A

Cranial gluteal n

34
Q

What nerve innervates the muscles that extends the stifle

A

Femoral n

35
