1
Q

What is the pleura

A

Serous membrane that line the thorax and envelop the lungs

2
Q

What is the pleura sac

A

A pleura is serous membrane which told back onto itself to form a 2 layered membranous pleural sac

3
Q

What is the mediastinum

A

A membranous partition between two body cavities an area between the lungs

4
Q

Whats the significance of pleural recesses

A

allowing the parietal and visceral pleura to be relatively distant

5
Q

Define pneumothorax

A

collapse lung where air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall

6
Q

Define haemothorax

A

Collection of blood within the pleural cavity

7
Q

Define chylothorax

A

Lymphatic tissue and fluid leaks into the space between the thorax and lung

8
Q

Define empyema

A

Pockets of pus which has been collecting inside the body cavity. Can form a bacterial infection if left untreated.

9
Q

What supplied the parietal pleura

A

The phrenic nerve

10
Q

What supplies the visercal pleura

A

The vagus nerve and sympathetic fibres

11
Q

What is referred pain

A

Pain that occurs that doesn’t come from the origin

12
Q

Which lung has two lobes

A

Left

13
Q

Which lobe has 3 lobes

A

Right

14
Q

What are the two fissure on the right lung

A

Horizontal fissure

Oblique fissure

15
Q

What structure are seen in the left hilum

A

Left lung has superior pulmonary arteries

Pulmonary veins and Bronchi

16
Q

What structures are seen in the right hilum

A

Right lung has anterior pulmonary arteries

17
Q

Where do the bronchial arteries supply and originate

A

Supply the bronchi and connective tissue of the lungs

Originate from the thoracic aorta.

18
Q

Why is an PA x ray preferred over an AP

A

Ap harder to read and causes structures got looks smaller than they are.

19
Q

Define radio-opaque and radiolucent

A

Radio-opaque is when in the x ray structures appear white

Radiolucent is when they appear clear

20
Q

Whats the difference between tension and simple pneumothorax

A

Tension- positive pressure build up

Simple- collection of air on the pleural space between the chest wall and lung.
