Aim
To see if there is a link between depression and non-adherence in diabetic patients medication
Method
Randomized controlled double blind study
Participants
60 patients with type1/2 diabetes an ddiagnosed with depression. Volunteer sample
Procedure
Randomly assigned to Fluoxetine (treats depression) group Or placebo (Double blind)
Assessed for depression using psychometric tests and adherence to diabetic medication routine by measuring blood sugar levels
After 8 weeks group given fluoxetine had healthier blood glucose levels
Conclusions
Measuring blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes indicates their levels of adherence
Greater adherence shown by people who were less depressed
Not being anxious or depressed improves compliance
