Q

What is alert height?

A

Height above runway based on the characteristics of the aeroplane and it’s fail operational landing system above which a CAT III approach would be discountinued and missed approach initiated if a failure occurred in one of the redundant parts of the automatic landing system or relevant ground equipment system.

Q

What is fail passive system?

A

In case of failure, no significant out of trim condition or deviation of flight path or attitude but the landing is not completely automatically. The pilot assumes control of the aircraft after a failure.

Q

What is concept of minima?
1. Airfield operating minima
2. Operator authorized minima
3. Crew minima
4. Aircraft minima

A
  1. Established in accordance with the airport authority and published on approach charts.
  2. Lowest minima that an operator is allowed to use at a specified airfield following an approval from its operational authority.
  3. Lowest minimum that the crew is authorized to operate depending on the crew qualification
  4. Lowest minima which have been demonstrated during aircraft certification. Indicated on the aircraft flight manual.

Q

What do the crew need to check for each flight? 4 things.
Which value should they use?

A
  1. Aircraft capability minima
  2. The aerodrome operating minima
  3. The operators minima
  4. The crew minima.

They must use the highest value to determine the allowed operating minimum for their flight.

19
Q

CAT I decision height, RVR, visibility

A

DH = minimum 200ft
RVR = minimum 550m
Ceiling = not less than 800m

20
Q

CAT II decision height, RVR, visibility

A

Decision height: Below 200ft but above 100ft.

RVR = not less than 300m

21
Q

CAT IIIA DH and RVR

A

DH: Lower then 100ft or no DH
RVR = not less than 200m

22
Q

CAT IIIB DH and RVR
Operator landing minima

A

DH = Lower than 50ft or no DH
RVR = Less than 200m but not less than 75m

75/75/75

23
Q

What does the PF do on 100ft ABOVE?
What does the CM2 do?
What does PF do on MINIMUM?

A

PF: Looks out for visual references.
CM2: Monitor the instruments and call any deviations or failures immediately.

PF must reply continue or go around flaps.

CM2 is head down and calls the FMA changes “Flare” and “Roll out”.

24
Q

What must the FMA display for CAT IIIB approach?
What is different on this approach?

What does the PF do on ONE HUNDRED?

A

CAT 3 DUAL and NO is to be entered in the DH field on the PERF page.

We don’t have 100 above and minimum calls because we don’t have DH.

Continue unless a failure or other things that leads to go around.

25
Q

What are the PM duties?

A

Monitoring flight instruments, head down through the approach until landing and roll out is completed. Calls for any deviation or warning. Monitoring FMA + callouts of the mode changes are required.

26
Q

Loss of visual reference, deviation etc. below DH?

A

Go around.

27
Q

What must be displayed on FMA at 350ft?

A

LAND

28
Q

What if the autoland red light illuminates below 200ft?

A

Both AP off
Excessive deviation
Localizer or glide slope transmitter fails
RA discrepancy of at least 15ft is sensed.

29
Q

When does the flare come?
When does the THR IDLE come?

A

Flare = 40 ft
THR IDLE = below 30ft

30
Q

What happen if we have INOP System CAT 3 DUAL when we arm both the A/P?

A

We will get CAT 3 Single only on the FMA.

31
Q

When is CAT II and CAT III operations approved with engine out?

A

CAT II and CAT III Fail passive autoland are only approved IF IN configuration full and if the engine out procedures are completed before reaching 1000ft in approach.

32
Q

Can we autoland + auto rollout with CAT 3 Single?

A

Yes, but we can’t do a CAT III B with no DH.

33
Q

What must be displayed on FMA during CAT II approach?

A

CAT II/CAT III Single/CAT III DUAL

34
Q

What should be displayed on FMA for CAT IIIA?
Is autoland mandatory?

A

CAT 3 Single/CAT 3 DUAL
Autoland is mandatory

35
Q

What should be displayed on FMA on CAT IIIB?
Is autoland mandatory?

A

CAT 3 DUAL.
Autoland and roll out manadatory.

36
Q

Important during CAT IIIB approach regarding DH?

A

NO DH = no callouts like 100 above and minimum. PF announce continue on “100 ABOVE” call.

37
Q

CAT II approach, NO FLARE at 30ft?
Autoland warning comes up below DH?

A

Disengage AP and complete manual landing.
Disengage AP and manual landing if you have visual references.

38
Q

CAT III approaches, red auto land below DH

A

Go around must be performed unless you have visual references.

39
Q

Callouts to ATC?

A

WZZ102, request CAT II/III approach.

40
Q

Landing retard
Reversers?

A

Do not retard the thrusts to idle unless you hear retard.
Use the reversers.

41
Q

CAT II with manual landing

A

Latest 80ft RA = disconnect the AP. Landing and rollout are completed manually.

42
Q

A-Thrust malfunction = only which approach?

A

Only CAT II is possible. Announce continue and take over the thrust manually.

If CAT III was briefed and prepared, a go around must be initiated.

43
Q

What happens when landing capability degrades?

A

Triple aural click. New landing capability appears in the FMA.
If CAT II was briefed, and we have CAT 3 DUAL from the beginning. The approach can be continued if the system downgrades to CAT II.

44
Q

NO LAND 350ft RA =
NO FLARE 40ft RA =
NO ROLLOUT AT MAIN WHEEL TOUCHDOWN

A

= disconnect AP continue manually.
= disconnect AP, flare manually.

45
Q

Callouts during TOF

A

Entering runway (when passing CAT 2/3 holding point)

Rolling (before thrust set call)

Airborne (minimum 500ft)

46
Q

Below 1000ft when to go around, CAT II

A

NO LAND MODE, Autoland Warning light, AP off, loss of CAT 2, Amber caution, Engine failure
