Lymph System Flashcards
(31 cards)
What duct of the limbic system empties into the right subclavian vein and drains have to head the chest and the right arm?
The right lymphatic duct
What is the job of the lymph system?
To return plasma leakage to the blood
What is the thoracic duct?
A duct of the lymph system that empties into the left subclavian vein and drains the rest of the body
What does the lymph system absorb?
Lipids
What are lacteals?
Capillaries found in the villi of the small intestine; absorbs lipids
What does the lymph system filter?
It filters the lymph to detect invaders called antigens by lymph nodes
What lymph node structure brings lymph in
Afferent vessel
What is the efferent vessel?
A lymph node structure that takes clean lymph out
What lymph node is the outside section; has a B and T lymphocytes, monocytes and filters
Cortex
What are old monocytes called
Reticuloendthelial cells (RE cells)
What lymph node structure is the center section in serves as a collection chamber
The Medulla
How does lymph flow through lymph nodes
It flows through the cortex to him through the medulla, (all lymph goes through at least one node)
What lymph Oregon has lots of macrophages and lymphocytes and is made out of lymph tissue
The spleen
What type of tissue is made of reticular fibers and allows macrophages to collect
Lymph tissue
What is the jobs of the spleen?
- store blood
- destroys old RBCs
- is part of immune system
- composed of red and white pulp
What is red pulp?
Pulp that contains more macrophages; contains venous blood; with the venous sinus
What is white pulp?
Pulp that has more lymphocytes; contains arteriolar blood; begins cleaning
What covers the heart and is the space between the lungs?
Medianstain
What lymph organ doesn’t have as many reticular cells; more epithelial cells and lots of lymphocytes
The thymus
What is edema?
Excess tissue fluid that is shown by swelling
What is cysterna chyli?
The beginning of the thoracic duct
What does the thymus secrete?
Thymosin
What are lymphoid tissue or tonsils?
Clumps of lymph tissue. Has 3 sets in the back of the throat
What is the areas of lymph called in the intestines
Peyer’s patches
