Lymphatic system Flashcards
Lymphoid tissue are found in all region of the body except…
Central nervous system and bone marrow
What are the names of the 2 major lymphatic ducts?
- right lymphatic duct (the smaller one): drains lymph from right side of the head, neck, thorax and right forelimb. it empties into right jugular v. and cranial vena cava.
- thoracic duct (the main duct): collects from left side of upper body and left limb. In the abdomen it’s called cisterna chyli drains from the hindlimbs, pelvis and abdomen. empties in cranial vena cava and jugular v.
Give an example of lymphatic capillaries in the body.
Lacteals.
they found in the intestinal villi, collect chyle which is a product of fat digestion and contain fat-soluble vitamins
What do you know about lymph nodes?
They act like a mechanical filter trapping bacteria in their trabecular meshwork,
they have cortex (B cells dependent) and paracortex or deep cortex layer (T cells dependent) and medulla (phagocyte, macrophage and plasma cells)
all these layers encapsulated in fibrous c.t capsule, and below it there is a subcapsular sinus
the node have several afferent (carry lymph to the node) and a single efferent (carry away)
