Lymphatic System Flashcards
(20 cards)
What are breast tissue drained by?
Lymphatic vessels that lead to axillary lymph nodes and internal mammary nodes
What percentage of cases are due to axillary lymph node drainage?
75%
What percentage of cases are due to internal mammary nodes drainage?
20% → Imc
Where do axillary nodes drain into?
the subclavian trunk
How are axillary nodes classified
Level I
Level II
Level III nodes
Where are the level nodes located?
Level I is the closet to the breast
Distance of the nodes to the breast increases as numbers increases
How many axillary nodes are there?
Around 20-30
Where do axillary lymph nodes drain?
Lymphatics of the breast
Pectoral region
Upper abdominal wall
Upper limbs
How many maxillary lymph mode groups (or levels) are there ?
5 groups →ant, post, lat, central, apical
3 levels
Where is the anterior group located?
Deep to pectoralis major along lower border of pectoralis minor
Where is the posterior group located?
Along subscapular vessels
Where is the lateral group located?
Along the axillary vein
Where is the central group located?
In the axillary fat
Where is the apical group located?
The apex of axillary above pectoralis minor, alongside medial part of axillary vein
Where do the lateral quadrants of the breast drain into?
Anterior axillary or pectoral group of lymph nodes
Where do medial quadrants of breast drain through?
The internal thoracic group (IMC)
Where do the upper quadrants drain into?
The apical axillary nodes
What are the other sites in which drainage can be to?
Posterior intercostal nodes → 5%
Contralateral breast nodes
Sub - diaphramatic and sub-peritoneal lymph nodes in the abdominal cavity
