M3 - Muscular System Frog Flashcards
Largest muscle that occupies the anterior lateral border of the thigh
Triceps femoris
Three heads of the Triceps femoris
- vastus externus (dorsal head)
- rectus femoris anticus (middle head)
- vastus internus (ventral head)
Ventral head of the Triceps femoris
Vastus internus
Middle head of the Triceps femoris
Rectus femoris anticus
Dorsal head of the Triceps femoris
Vastus externus
Small muscle anterior to the vastus externus and medial to the rectus femoris anticus
Gluteus
This muscle acts as the rotator of the femur.
Gluteus
Posterior to the Triceps femoris and partly covered by the vastus externus.
Biceps femoris
This muscle flexes the leg and extends the thigh.
Biceps femoris
This muscle is an adductor of the thigh and extensor of the leg
Triceps femoris
Posterior to the biceps femoris that extends from the dorsal part of the ischium to the back of the head of the tibio-fibula
Semimembranosus
A short thin muscle between the vastus externus and the proximal end of the semimembranosus
Pyriformis
This muscle pulls the urostyle and draws the femur dorsally
Pyriformis
Acts as flexor of the leg, adductor and protractor of the thigh.
Sartorious
A slender strip of muscle running obliquely across the ventral side of the thigh
Sartorius
