What was the MAGIC collaborative partner suite originally designed for? What is it used for now?
MAGIC was originally a co-work space for external corporate partners. Now the space is used by student start up teams, MAGIC commercial projects like, “That Damn Goat”, teams working for hire, as well as external client driven projects. Partners of MAGIC include Forbes Media, Portrait Displays, Mountain House Media, and Pure Imagination Studios.
What are the specs of the Wegmans Theater?
The Wegmans Theater is a 180 seat movie theater with a Dolby Atmos audio-visual system which has 58 speakers and 4k laser RGB projection.
What major event is held in the Wegmans Theater every semester?
The School of Film and Animation hosts a screening event every semester where film and animation students display short films and animations they created.
Where is the sound stage and what is it used for?
The sound stage is at the far end of the hall on the left (of the tourist) right before the stairs leading to the 2nd floor of MAGIC. It is a 7,000 square foot space used by student filmmakers as well as commercial clients such as Wegmans and MisterWives. In 2021, RIT students assisted in a live performance by MIsterWives, a modern pop band.
What gaming easter eggs are present on the staircase going to the 2nd floor of MAGIC?
On the stair railings there are ocarinas in reference to the video game, “The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time” and above are blocky cloud lights which are in reference to Minecraft. Finally on the ceiling tiles you can see the designs are in reference to the game Portal.
