Q

Explain the steps taken in magnetic particle testing of a ferrous metal. (4)

A
  1. The component to be tested must be first magnetized.
  2. Magnetic particles which can be dry or in solution are sprinkled onto the test piece.
  3. The particles stick to the magnetic field and flaws can be inspected visually by examining the pattern to see if it has been distorted.
  4. The component must be demagnetized after testing.
