A
Two like poles (N to N)
3

What are the traits of soft magnetic materials
A
- easy to magnetise
- easy to demagnetise
4
Q
Name an example of a soft magnetic material
A
Iron
5
Q
Name a use of soft magnetic materials
A
- Electromagnets (loudspeakers)
6
Q
What are the traits of hard magnetic material
A
- difficult to magnetise
- difficult to demagnetise
7
Q
Name an example of a hard magnetic material
A
Steel
8
Q

A
Compass needle
9
Q
Name 4 magnetic materials
A
- Iron
- nickel
- cobalt
- steel
10
Q
Define a magnetic field
A
The area around a magnet which the magnetic forces (attraction/repulsion) act.
11
Q
When can a magnetic material become magnetised
A
- When it is placed in a magnetic field
12
Q
CORE PRACTICAL (drawing magnetic field lines)
A
- Draw outline of bar magnet on the paper
- use a compass, mark where the north is shown by the compass needle
- Repeat this all around the magnetic including the poles
- then connect the dots
- use arrows to show the direction (arrows should always point towards the south)
13
Q
Properties of the magnetic field lines
A
- more crowded at the poles
- never cross (overlap)
- always N to S
- continuous
14
Q
Where do you find uniform lines
A
U - shaped magnet
15
Q
The properties
A
