Q

Rules of drawing field lines

A
  1. The closer the lines are together , the stronger the field
  2. The lines NEVER touch OR cross

Q

Magnetic domains

A

When domains are aligned the material is a PERMANENT MAGNET with a North and South Pole
If you DROP a magnet you can DE-MAGNETISE it because you cause the domains to become unaligned.

Q

Describe how to create a magnet, and an electromagnet

A
  1. Placing a magnetic material next to a strong permanent magnet will cause the domains to align over time
  2. We can also create a permanent magnet by stroking a magnetic material with a permanent magnet
  3. Wrap the magnetic material I.e iron nail , in a wire (solenoid) and pass electricity through the wire. The iron nail will become an electromagnet

Q

How to increase the strength of an electromagnet

A
  1. Wind the wire into a coil to strengthen the magnetic field
  2. Put an iron nail inside
  3. Increase the current flowing through the wire
