2
Q

Describe the earths magnetic field.

A

The earth’s magnetic field stretches all the way into space. It is a magnetic field that surrounds the earth, protecting us from harmful particles from space. The field is pretty unsteady.

Q

Explain the difference between attraction and repulsion.

A

Attraction happens when the north pole of a magnet gets close to the south pole of another. (Opposites attract.) Repulsion happens when a north pole gets close to another north, or south to south. They push away from each other.

Q

Describe the domain of a magnetic object compared to a unmagnetized magnet.

A

The domain of a magnetized object is organized and arranged so that the magnetic fields align, making a magnetic field go in the same way. An unmagnetized objects domain is all arranged in random ways and it is arranged so that there is no magnetic field.

Q

What is a ferromagnet?

A

Things with strong magnetic properties like iron and rare earth metals that can stay magnetized even without a field.

Q

What is the difference between a temporary magnet and a permanent magnet?

A

A temporary magnet is where magnetism can be stopped. A permanent magnet has magnetism all the time and it never goes away.
