Magnification Flashcards

1
Q

Define resolution. What is limited by? What is it measured in?

A
  1. Ability to distinguish 2 ind objects as sep entities
  2. Limited by diffraction of light as it passes through specimen and lens
  3. Measured in pixels

Q

Define diffraction. How does this relate to diffreaction?

A

Tendency of light waves to spread around phys obstacles

  1. Close struct in spec can make reflected light overlap when it diffracts

Q

Why do electron microscopes have a higher resolution?

A

Electron beam = shorter wavelength t.f. diffraction won’t blur img
