Mahabharata Flashcards

Q

How are these ancient texts reflected in your own life?

A

The theme of the Gita is that an individual’s friend and enemy lie within us. They represent the higher spiritual aspirations and the lower sensual desires. They provide insight into the importance of conquering our desires and remembering our essential nature, beyond the bodymind.

Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna together signify the important of combining spiritual education with action. In this world, rarely do action and peace co-exist. One class of people is active, productive, and prosperous, but lose their peace of mind. Whereas another class of people is relatively peaceful but not active, productive, or prosperous. Thus, action and peace seem to elude each other. Kṛṣṇa gives the technique of combining the two by taking up higher values.
