What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

An autoimmune, systemic, inflammatory, joint disease with a chronic, unpredictable and fluctuating course.
There is no aetiology or cure.
Aetiological factors include environmental risk factors, smoking, female, 30-50, alcohol, obesity, familial and genetics.

What is HAV?

Forefoot pathology
Caused by abnormal STJ pronation
An acquired deformity caused by abnormal mechanics at the 1st mtpj during the propulsive phase of Gait.

Describe normal foot function highlighting STJ/ MTJ mid stance to propulsion

Normal propulsion requires that the foot converts to a rigid lever.
The tarsal bones must become locked together by the osseus locking mechanisms which develop as the STJ becomes supinated and the MTJ is pronated.
