What 4 things does Make it stick tell us about studying regarding reading and methods ways to remember things long term

1. First Concept is that doing something to make the brain work makes you learn. Reading over something without doing something active does you no good. Giving yourself test is a active things that will help you much more. Also increasing the space between doing something active like testing is helpful. In other words if you have the choice of testing yourself right after reading over your notes or waiting a day it is probably better to wait a day although doing it both times is best.
   
   2. Surprising to me it is also better to study around the actual item you need to know rather than studying the items over and over. Example is the bean bag study where people were allowed to throw directly at a 3 foot hole vs a group that threw at 2 and 4 foot holes. The group that threw at 2 and 4 foot did much better. This imply s that Leah should probably be running 1500 and 400 to really get better at 800.
   3. Even interferance things like having a font that makes it harder to read can improve recall because again it forces the the brain to be more active.
   4. Many people are fooled into thinking they know something because they have read it multiple times and it is easier to read or they have done a test soon after learning something and done well but testing yourself a while after learning is a much better indicator. This should be obvios but the longer out you can test well on something the better you understand it.
