Making more salts Flashcards
What happens when acids react with alkalis?
They form salt and water
What happens when metal carbonates react with acids?
Metal carbonates react with acids to give a salt, water, and carbon dioxide.
How can salt be made from reacting acids and alkalis?
Using a titration.
What are the full steps to making a dry sample of salt from reacting alkalis with acids?
1) Carry out titration with the indicator added to see how much acid completely reacts with the alkali.
2) Run that volume of acid into the solution of alkali again but this time without the indicator.
3) Then crystalize and dry the crystals of salt from the reaction mixture.
What is the formula to show that the ions react to form water molucules?
H+ (aq) + OH- (aq) ———> H2O(L)
What is the formula when metal carbonate reacts with acids?
metal carbonate + acid ——–> salt + water + carbon dioxide.
