Q

What was the Missouri compromise?

A

The Missouri compromise of 1820 drew a virtual line across the middle of the country. Any states created in the west which fell below this line could be slave states, any above had to be free states. The Missouri compromise set down a pattern of adding states to the USA in pairs: one slave and one non-slave
