Hypogonadism due to impaired secretion of gonadotrophins (FSH and LH) in the pituitary, resulting in a lack of sex steroid production.

List some causes of hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism

Answer 2

Primary: Impaired secretion of gonadotrophins only, with the rest of the hypothalamus and pituitary functioning normally. Seen in congenital syndromes such as Kallmann syndrome, CHARGE syndrome and GnRH insensitivity.
Secondary: Much more commone and can be caused by brain/pituitary tumours, pituitary apoplexy, head trauma
