What areas does the IA/Lingual block anesthetize?
Mandibular molars, premolars, canines, incisors, facial soft tissue from 2nd premolar to central incisor.
How much anesthetic is used for IA/Lingual?
¾ – 1 cartridge (Lingual injection: <¼ cart used).
Contraindications for IA/Lingual?
Infection, acute inflammation, patients who may bite their lip/tongue.
What does the lingual nerve anesthetize?
No teeth; lingual soft tissue from central to 3rd molar and anterior 2/3 of tongue/floor of mouth.
What does the Buccal nerve block anesthetize?
No teeth; facial soft tissue from mandibular molars to 1st premolar.
How much anesthetic is used for Buccal?
1/8 cartridge.
What is the contraindication for Buccal?
Infection or inflammation in the area.
What does the Mental nerve block anesthetize?
No teeth; buccal soft tissues of lower lip, chin, and soft tissues from 1st premolar forward.
How much anesthetic is used for Mental?
⅓ cartridge.
Contraindications for Mental block?
Inflammation or infection in area.
What does the Incisive block anesthetize?
All teeth anterior to mental foramen; buccal soft tissues of lower lip, chin, and soft tissues from 1st premolar forward.
How much anesthetic is used for Incisive?
⅓ – ½ cartridge.
Buccal: needle, dose, and injection site?
25 long; 1/6 cart (0.3 ml); site: mucobuccal fold posterior and lateral to molars.
Contraindications for Incisive?
Inflammation or infection in area.
Inferior Alveolar: needle, dose, and site?
25 long; ¾ cart (1.5 ml); injection site: pterygomandibular triangle.
Lingual: needle, dose, and site?
25 long; <¼ cart; withdraw after IA, inject anterior/medial.
Mental/Incisive: needle, dose, and injection site?
25/27 short or long; ⅓ cart (0.6 ml); site: mucobuccal fold anterior to mental foramen.
