Q

Power on stall takeoff configuration

A

Set up: throttle idle, maintain altitude and heading, flaps to 10 when below 110, slow down to 55, full throttle, pitch up to 20 degrees attitude and wait for stall

Recovery: reduce AOA by releasing control wheel back pressure, level wings, maintain coordinated flight. When airspeed is above 60 retract flaps.

Q

Power on stall departure configuration

A

Set up: throttle idle, maintain altitude and heading, slow down to 55, full throttle, pitch up to 20 degrees attitude and wait for the stall

Recovery: reduce the angle of attack by releasing control wheel back pressure, level wings, maintain coordinated flight

Q

Power off stall

A

Set up: throttle idle, maintain altitude and heading, slow down to 70, full flaps, slowly pitch down to simulate landing, pick “landing” altitude, pitch up when altitude is reached then hold until it stalls.

Recovery: reduce AOA by releasing control wheel back pressure, throttle to full power, level wings, maintain coordinated flight. Retract flaps to 20 when above 60, then slowly one by one after that.

Q

Steep turns

A

Smoothly roll into a 45 bank, apply back pressure to increase AOA, add power to maintain airspeed (95 knots) and altitude

Roll out on the entry heading by releasing control wheel back pressure, reduce power slightly, maintain coordination.

Q

S-turns across a road

A

select suitable a line that is perpendicular to the wind, enter to the selected reference line on a downwind heading, complete a series or 180 degree turns of uniform radius in opposite directions recrossing the line at 90 degree angle, bank angle should not exceed 45 degrees, radius of turns should be between 1/4 to 1/2 mile from refernce line.

Q

Turns around a point

A

select a suitable ground reference point (intersection, landmark), Enter left or right at a distance equal to the desired radius of the turn on a downwind heading (1/4-1/2 mile from point), maintain proper ground track by correcting for wind.

Q

rectangular course

A

select a rectangular field (sides approximately 1 mile in length), enter pattern left or right at an distance of 1/4-1/2 mile from selected reference area (45 degree to the downwind leg), Keep the distance as you go around the track, adjust power to maintain entry airspeed and pitch to maintain selected altitude.

Q

soft field takeoff

A

Position airplane on the takeoff path without coming to a complete stop, adjust and maintain pitch so nose wheel is off the ground, advance throttle to full, liftoff at the lowest possible airspeed and remain in ground effect while accelerating to Vx (62 kts) or Vy (74 kts), retract flaps up when airspeed is above 60 kts

Q

Short field takeoff

A

apply brakes and advance throttle to full, check engine instruments, release brakes, liftoff at POH computed airspeed, accelerate and climb at that speed until obstacle is clear, after it has been cleared maintain positive rate of climb and accelerate to 74 (Vy), retract flaps when airspeed is above 60 kts
