A mews is a cobblestone street or alleyway that was originally built to house stables and coach houses for the staff of wealthy London residents in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Borscht Belt
The Borscht Belt is a nickname for the summer resorts in the Catskill Mountains, which are located in parts of Sullivan, Orange, and Ulster counties in New York. Why do they call it Avenue of the Americas?
“Avenue of the Americas” is the official name for Sixth Avenue in New York City because Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia renamed it in 1945 to honor the nations of the Western Hemisphere and promote Pan-American ideals, with the intention of signifying the importance of immigrants from those countries to the city; the name change was accompanied by lamppost medallions displaying the seals of various American countries, although most New Yorkers still commonly refer to it as “Sixth Avenue”.
