–> used in depression

-Selegiline (irreversible)

–> increased dopamine so used in Parkinson’s. It’s neuroprotective

MAOi side effects

A
  1. Cheese reaction if no tyramine free diet
  2. too much serotonin if concomittant use of MAOi with SSRI or TCA
  3. insomnia & excitation ( increased serotonin )
  4. sexual disfunction

  1. depression but not 1st choice

2. phobias (taken 2-3/ day because of short duration)

Clorgiline side effect

  • used in depression but not first choice because of the cheese effect (HTN crisis) if there is no lack of tyramine in the diet.

    used in severe cases of depression
