Process which results in the increase of international exchanges by seaways, accelerated since the 70s
Reasons:
Lowering the cost & time of sea transportation
Container revolution
globalisation of trade
EEZ
Exclusive economic zone
Maritime area that stretches from the coast to 200 nautical miles in which a country has exclusive rights to explore and exploit resources

Any area of water which is part of a sea or ocean coastline
Contact zone between earth and sea

Locations where flows of goods converge before being distributed on a global scale

Or maritime bottleneck
Narrow channel connecting two bodies of water along widely used sea routes
–> congestive pathways bc their narrowness limits the flow of sea transportation

The economics branch which relates to the exploitation and development of maritime areas & activities linked to them
Container port
Or cargo port
Port equipped to handle containerised cargo, which then handle onward transportation
